Two HCPS Students Earn State Recognition in DAR Essay Contests

Two Harford County Public Schools students were recognized as state winners in the Maryland State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (MSSDAR) essay contests at the organization's Annual Awards Breakfast on March 21 at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City.

Georgia Reid, an eighth grader at Patterson Mill Middle School, earned top honors in the American History Essay Contest for her essay "Lunch With a Founder: William Paca," sponsored by the Governor William Paca Chapter. Camilla Carneiro, a ninth grader at Bel Air High School, won the Patriots of the American Revolution High School Essay Contest for her essay "Mercy Otis Warren: A Woman Behind the Revolution," also sponsored by the Governor William Paca Chapter.

Each state winner received a certificate, a silver medal, an America 250! pin, and a $200 cash prize. Both essays have been forwarded to the DAR Eastern Division for possible recognition at the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Continental Congress in June.

Congratulations to Georgia and Camilla on this well-deserved honor.
