Students in Harford Academy's Girls Club recently had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and into the community for a Spa Day experience at Cheveux Salon and Day Spa that combined fun, self-care, and meaningful skill-building.

The outing, on June 12, 2026, gave students a chance to practice communication, social interaction, and life skills in a real-world setting. The mission of the Girls Club is to engage students in socially appropriate, peer-aged conversations while using their Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, and the salon visit provided exactly that kind of purposeful, community-based experience.

From manicures to hair styling to makeup and special self-care treatments, students enjoyed a day filled with confidence and celebration while also putting their AAC devices to work in a welcoming, real-world environment. The experience supported individual IEP goals and objectives and helped students build confidence, independence, and friendships along the way.
