The Board’s goal is to choose and vote for the top candidate for superintendent by the end of May. The new superintendent would begin on July 1, 2026.

In March, the Board of Education contracted with the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) to conduct the search process. Public input was gathered to inform the search process for a new superintendent. The public was asked to describe the characteristics they sought in a new Superintendent. The resulting Superintendent profile was used when reviewing candidate qualifications.

In April, the superintendent position was posted so that qualified local, state, and national candidates could apply.  The Board conducted interviews in May to select the finalists who will participate in stakeholder group interviews on May 18, 2026. These groups will provide input to the Board as it prepares to choose a new superintendent.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I am pleased that Dr. Stacey Gerringer and Dr. Dyann Mack have been selected as finalists in our superintendent search,” said Board of Education President Lauren Paige. “Both candidates bring a deep understanding of Harford County Public Schools, shaped by years of dedicated service to our students, staff, and community. I look forward to hearing from our community and engaging in the stakeholder panel process so that community voices remain central to this important decision. The Board values this feedback as we move forward in selecting the next leader of HCPS and continuing our commitment to success for all learners.”
