Reconsideration

The reconsideration process exists to address concerns or objections regarding specific items in the library collection. If content within our collection raises concerns, please contact the school library media specialist in order to collaboratively address and resolve concerns.

Reconsideration Committee

Harford County Public Schools maintains a pool of applicants who may be called upon to serve on a Reconsideration Committee. Membership in the pool is open to all Harford County residents. The applicant pool remains active for two years. Individuals in the pool will only be contacted if selected to review a book.

Reconsideration Process

A book can be submitted for reconsideration using the link "Submit a Reconsideration Request" by an employee, parent, or students within the school system. After the book is submitted for reconsideration, nine individuals will be selected at random from the pool to review the book. The nine people will include one teacher, one HCPS administrator, one librarian, two parents, two community members, and two high school students. Individuals selected to review a book are expected to attend training, read the book, and participate in one or more meetings.
