Jopppatowne High AP English students get a behind the scenes look at Romeo and Juliet by the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company

On March 27, the 11th and 12th grade AP English students from Joppatowne High School attended the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s showing of Romeo and Juliet. From the moment the actors took the stage, their interactive performance engaged the students. Before beginning the play, the performers entertained the audience with a handful of songs that prompted both dancing and singing. The close proximity to the stage as well as the audience involvement in the show created a sense of comradery between the actors and the audience.  The modernization of certain elements in Romeo and Juliet, including dance moves and humorous moments, kept the students engaged. After the performance, the cast and crew took the time to answer questions and take comments from the audience. Cast members then hung around and engaged students in personal conversations following the large group discussion. To end the interactive experience, the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company invited all of the students on stage get a picture together to commemorate the experience.
